Job Applications 101 - Tips to help you get a leg up in the application process

Hey jobseekers! We’re here with a brief series titled Job Applications 101 to help you navigate today’s job market, and stand out from the competition. The simple tips & tricks laid out over these next few posts will help you stand out through the application process (and preserve your recruiter’s sanity while you’re at it!) Starting with the first step in any application process… reading the job description.

Job Applications 101: Part 1

Read the Job Description

In this day and age, you can apply to 20 jobs a minute with just a few easy clicks. While that’s super convenient for getting your information out there, it’s not always the best course of action. Taking the time to thoroughly read the job description and ensure that your qualifications and interests align with what is detailed in the listing shows initiative and attention to detail that will surely set you apart from the competition! There’s very little that gets us more excited as a recruiting team than speaking with a candidate who demonstrates that they have thoroughly read our job descriptions and who can discuss the opportunity on a deeper level. It only takes a few minutes of your time to have a quick read through the full job description of any role you’re thinking of applying for. It’s a simple step that will save both you and the hiring team a great deal of time and effort, and will surely leave a good impression in that initial interview!

This may seem like common sense to some, but as recruiters in the Equine industry we’re often surprised by the number of questions we are asked about information clearly listed in our job descriptions! It’s important to remember when looking at a hiring ad, that there’s much more to a job than just the title, location, and pay rate. In fact, many of your most basic questions like hours, perks, duties, company culture, and pay will be answered by just taking a careful look at the full job description. Anyone in the horse industry knows that no two barns or businesses are run the same way. Our team goes to great lengths to ensure that each position we represent is portrayed as accurately and uniquely as the position itself is! In this industry especially, taking the time to review the job description in detail can give you a HUGE amount of insight into the job and the company overall.

Thank you for reading through our first step in this 5 part series. Stay tuned for next week’s topic: Resumes!
